What You Need To Know About Coarctation Of The Aorta
January 27th, 2012 by admin
Coarctation of the Aorta, or aortic coarctation, is a major congenital birth defect that occurs when the aorta narrows ductus arteriosis inserts. Aggressive treatment is required in about fifty percent of cases. There are three types: preductal coarctation, ductal coarctation, and postductal coarctation. When there is a narrowing of this aorta under the areas of the body that supply oxygen rich blood to the lower parts of the body, it can interrupt proper blood flow. This is corrected shortly after birth, usually, with surgery.
